Indulgence is the name of the game here. Sumptuous bedrooms, a lavish spa and a setting-to-die-for lead the way, while a chorus of extras like a casino, a golf course and four a la carte restaurants do their best to steal the limelight.

The Leela is made up of 42 house-style buildings that nestle in a massive 75 acres of manicured grounds. Plus it's just a stone's throw from a quiet beach. Inside, traditional Indian elements, like bronze and stone statues in the lobby, are offset against touches of simple elegance, like rich wood furniture and cream colour schemes.

But it's the bedrooms that will really take your breath away. These huge spaces come in a variety of styles – pavilion, lagoon and club. Pavilion rooms come with balconies or terraces plus big well-dressed beds, satellite TVs and DVD players. Lagoon rooms come with all this plus the added luxury of marble bathrooms. Both are special, but if you're feeling really indulgent, plump for a club suite with pool. Not only will you get your own butler but a private plunge pool, too.

The hotel's other assets include a fabulous swimming pool. It's a curvy number set into a terrace with a pool bar and a kids' pool. But it's the spa and restaurants that really stand out. The spa specialises in Ayurvedic therapies and hot stone massages, while the restaurants go all out to treat your tastebuds. Everything from Goan favourites to Italian classics is served up in a range of settings, from relaxed riverside terraces to formal restaurants with carved wooden screens and chandeliers.
