Agrigento is one of those rare resorts that gives you the best of both worlds – a beach holiday and a sightseeing break. On the one hand you've got the lovely little sand and pebble beach of San Leone, where you can unfurl your beach towel and flop. On the other, it's home to one of Sicily's most visited archaeological sites, the eye-popping Valley of the Temples. The Dioscuri Bay Palace is snuggled right up against the seaside - it looks out across the beach from one side and across to Agrigento and the temples on the other. In short, it's perfectly placed if you fancy being a sun-worshipper one day and an intrepid explorer the next. But there's more to this hotel than just its superb location. There's the pool terrace for starters. Bathed in sunlight and cooled by sea breezes, it's dotted with palms, sun loungers and parasols and makes a nice alternative to the beach. Then there's the intimate breakfast room that has dreamy panoramic views out across the Med and offers up cappuccinos to die for. As to the rooms, well, they're decorated in classical styles with gold tones and honey-coloured wood furniture. Lovely.
