Amygdalia Cottage

An introduction to Amygdalia Cottage

Looking for a hideaway in the hills? Then you'll love the Amygdalia Cottage. Backed by woodlands and tucked away on a quiet country road, it's just the ticket for a relaxing break in a rural setting. Step inside and you'll find a neutral decor with whitewashed walls and delightful traditional features. The bedroom is a restful affair too with a wrought-iron bed and lots of light flooding in. Step outside and you'll find a pretty paved patio with elegant garden furniture and a barbecue area - ideal for long, lazy al fresco lunches. You can just picture it. The steak's sizzling away on the grill. Out on the table there's a crusty flour-dusted loaf and a Greek salad with plump vine tomatoes and big cubes of feta cheese. Delicious. Just above the cottage you'll find your very own swimming pool and terrace. Imagine yourself there, stretched out on a sunlounger, the warm Mediterranean sun shining down on you. And from the pool you can catch a glimpse of the sparkling sea in the distance. Talking of which, it's worth making the trip out to Anti-Paxos. There are two small sandy beaches here called Vrikes and Voutoumi, both with fantastic clear blue waters. Closer to home, it's only 10 minutes in the car to the coast and Kaki pebble beach.

Location-wise, you couldn't ask for more – everywhere's far enough away so as not to impose on your peace and quiet but close enough so you don't feel out of it. The nearest village, Magazia, is a couple of minutes' drive from the cottage and here you'll find a bakery and a mini-market to keep your cupboards stocked up. There's also a little Greek taverna if you fancy a glass of ouzo and a plate of vine-wrapped parcels. Paxos' main town, Gaios, is also within easy striking distance – about 10 minutes away by car. And from the cottage you can also walk to the dramatic Erimitis Caves over on the west coast. It takes about a 45 minutes to get there but it's well worth the effort, especially in the evenings. There's a lovely restaurant here where you can watch the sun setting over the horizon.
