An introduction to Riu Palace Mexico

The Riu Palace Mexico is certainly easy on the eye. From the outside it looks like an aristocratic Mexican ranch - all terracotta-topped rooftops, splashing fountains and palatial courtyards.

Step through the curtain of palm trees that back the hotel and you'll come to the hotel's star turn, Playacar beach. Here you'll find kayaks and windsurfing boards pulled up along the shore as well as plenty of sunbeds for you to stretch out on.

Away from the beach, the swimming pool's something to write home about. There's a swim-up bar, a whirlpool bath and instead of the usual blue-tiled floor, the pool's adorned with a huge mosaic of a hibiscus flower. What's more the poolside terrace is a real suntrap.

On the activities front there's plenty to choose from. You can join in a game of volleyball, head to the gym or have a go at scuba-diving with an introductory lesson in the pool. Plus there are aerobics classes, tennis courts and watersports that run the gamut from body boarding to sailing, too.

Plus there's just as much choice when it comes to dining. There are two main restaurants here - one serving Italian cuisine, the other Mexican. And for dinner there's a whole host of speciality eateries to choose from - four theme restaurants including a Fusion food restaurant.

When arriving at the hotel for our honeymoon we were absolutely chuffed to bits. The hotel is immaculate very clean staff fabulous. Food was out of this world especially in the Sir Edward. Booking for next year already. Can't wait to come back.... more on this review
