This hotel's fit for a king. Well, a queen actually - Queen Beatrix of Holland is a past guest. Established back in the 1950's, the Radisson's not only one of the longest serving hotels on the island but it's also one of the most prestigious. You certainly feel like royalty when you arrive - a red carpet welcomes you into the stone-flagged reception area.
It's rather impressive outside, too. The hotel opens out onto palm trees, waterfalls and a snaking river. Nestled among this tropical oasis are two lagoon-like swimming pools – one 'active' and one 'quiet'. Beyond them you've got the beach. In fact, at one point the beach merges into the pool, which solves that age-old toss up between the pool and the beach.
As for the bedrooms, there's more than just a dash of old world colonial charm about them. Think fretted shutters and grand mahogany beds. Talking of beds, each one has an air pump system so you can adjust the firmness of the bed to your liking. This hi-tech gizmo's something of a talking point around the hotel – you'll hear guests asking 'what's your setting?'
For more in the way of luxury, head to the Larimar Spa. The winner of the Conde Nast Traveller Hot Spa award in 2007, it's a parallel universe of steam cabins, plunge pools and treatment rooms. There's a glass-fronted gym here as well so you can gaze out to sea while spinning.
The bar and restaurant scene's rather special, too. The Sunset Grille's the place for sushi, seabass and prime steaks. In 2007 it won a coveted Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator Magazine. With its all-you-can-eat buffets, the bright and breezy Laguna restaurant offers a more laid-back atmosphere and theme nights. Down by the beach, meanwhile, you've got Gilligan's – perfect for fajitas or a pizza. Add the Coffee and Cream cafe, Aruba's one and only Martini bar and an on-site casino to the mix and you're in for a real treat. There's even waiter service around the pool which means you don't have to move from your sunlounger. It's like we said, this place really is fit for a king.
