Right by the ocean, the Hyatt Regency lays the powder-soft sand of Palm Beach at your feet. Literally. A stroll through the grounds, past the split-level swimming pool, and you're on the beach.
Tropical shores aside, the hotel itself is very impressive. Take the lobby. Sitting at the minimalist end of the design spectrum, it fuses clean lines and monochrome shades to great effect. Funky Olympic ring-like chandeliers hang over the reception and huge Salvador Dali-esque chairs edge the marble floors.
It's a similar story at the al fresco bar. Sink into a huge outdoor sofa or pull up a retro-style bar stool that wouldn't look out of place in a hip New York hangout. And the sleek theme continues in the bedrooms. Think objets d'art. Flat screen TVs. And neutral colour schemes splashed with orange and olive. Add to that king-size beds, walk-in showers and marble basins and you've got one seriously smart boudoir.
A lot of thought's gone into gardens, too. An ornamental river, complete with waterfalls and resident black swans, wends its way through the grounds. It passes by the Ruinas del Mar restaurant. Built to resemble a colonial fort, it's home to three restaurants serving up Italian, Asian and international cuisine. For light bites, like wraps and burgers, head down to the Palm Restaurant instead.
As to activities, take your pick from scuba diving, deep-sea fishing and catamarans. Or head to the spa for a muscle-melting massage or a session in the steam room. There's a really well-equipped gym, too, complete with TVs over the treadmills. In the evenings, head to the in-house casino. All neon-lit and with slot machines aplenty it's like a mini Vegas.
