Looking for something simple and straightforward at the budget end of the scale? Then the Brickell Bay Beach Club's for you. With its picture windows and lemon paintwork, it's the total opposite to the flash high-rise hotels that hug the Palm Beach strip. This place has got more of a motel-feel – it's compact, fancy-free and only a few storeys high.
The real pull here, though, is the location. The hotel's in a great spot on the main road through Palm Beach. It's right in the heart of the action, with bars and restaurants more or less on the doorstep. And the same goes for the beach – cross the road and you're there.
As for the hotel itself, the pool area takes centre stage. Palms, parasols and sunbeds frame the cross-shaped swimming pool. It's got a swim-up bar where you can order a fruity cocktail without even having to get out of the water. On the subject of drinks, there's also a little bar just by the lobby that's good for a nightcap.
On the accommodation front there are two types of rooms. The standard ones are fairly basic but are a good size and pleasantly decorated. The refurbished rooms, meanwhile, are quite sleek. Think attractive dark wood furniture and squidgy white pillows dressing the bed. It's worth pointing out that the bedrooms here don't have balconies.
When it comes to mealtimes, you can always pop next door to Tomato Charlie's pizza parlour. Set up back in 1957, it's something of an Aruban institution and does a mean line in breakfasts and lunches too.
All in all, a good value hotel that's a great base.
