The setting aside, one of the main attractions of this beachfront sanctuary is the bedrooms. Spacious and minimalist, they're kitted out with contemporary furnishings. And they all come with granite bathrooms, oversized balconies overlooking the garden or the ocean, and 'Divine Dreams' mattresses which are 12 inches thick. You can up the luxury even more by booking one of the Tara Beach Suites, which come with extras like flatscreen TVs, marble baths and separate lounges with a concierge service.
When you're not unwinding inside this chic hotel, step out into its landscaped gardens. The hotel is doing its bit for the planet, with a series of eco-friendly measures in force. One of them is the tagging of its exotic flora to help promote environmental awareness. The top spot out here, though, has to be the pool, which is bordered by a smart sun terrace. If sitting still drives you to distraction though, there's an open-air gym and a place where you can hire bikes, too. The hotel can also arrange tee-times for you at the nearby 18-hole Tierra del Sol golf course.
Last but not least is the Bucuti's cuisine. All meals are served in the Pirates' Nest Restaurant, housed in a replica of a 16th-century Dutch galleon on the beach. Everything from champagne breakfasts to succulent seafood is on the menu and you can eat on the al fresco terrace, which is torch-lit after dark. For drinks, pop into the hotel's Sand Bar next door. Open-air and right on the sands, its cocktails come with a side-order of live music.
