The first thing that strikes you about the Makadi Marine is how sumptuous it is. Painted in rich-terracotta, it looks like it's taken its cue from a sultan's palace. Take the lobby. It's all marble floors, grand archways and plush divans. The staff even greet you in traditional dress.

It's the same story throughout the rest of the hotel. There are bars decorated in rich red, burnt orange and opulent gold. Restaurants with beautifully laid tables, soaring ceilings and chandeliers. And the bedrooms, though fresher with their buttermilk walls, still have Moorish splashes.

The Makadi Marine's grounds follow the same Arabian-inspired style, with exotic flowers and palms that shoot skywards. In the thick of it are two curvy swimming pools bordered by big terraces, with sun loungers and parasols. There's also a pool bar. If you prefer the beach, lie back on the hotel's private stretch of sands, just footsteps away.

Sports-wise, you've got things like archery, football and tennis. And down on the sands, you can have a go at beach volleyball and watersports. There is also a handful of gift shops to have a mooch around. Young guests are well catered for too, with a kids' club, a playground and a mini-disco every night. And don't forget, you can use the spa at sister hotel, the Jaz Makadi Star Resort.

Had 2 wonderful weeks at this hotel in June this year accomadation, service, food and staff all first class going back next year can't wait!!!!!!!! more on this review
